Netflix’s Delhi Crime S2 Plot, Cast Release Date Revealed!

By Binged Bureau - Jul 17, 2022 @ 11:07 am
Netflix’s Delhi Crime S2 Plot, Cast Release Date Revealed!

Netflix‘s social media is buzzing with back to back updates on a new season of Delhi Crime, its most successful Indian Original show to date. Ever since Netflix’s social media handles posted promos for Delhi Crime Season 2, fans of the show are agog with curiosity about the cast, crew, plot and release date of Delhi Crime Season 2.

We at Binged have brought you definite information on all of the above, and more! Read on to find out –

Delhi Crime Season 2 Cast –

Delhi Crime Season 2 brings back all of the most popular characters from the debut Delhi Crime season. So we have Shefali Shah reprising her role of DCP Vartika Chaturvedi. Adil Hussain returns as CP Kumar Vijay, Rajesh Tailang as Inspector Bhupinder Singh, Rasika Dugal as constable Neeti Singh, Gopal Datt Tiwari as constable Sudhir Kumar, and Sidharth Bhardwaj as constable Subhash Gupta.

New cast members in Delhi Crime Season 2 include stellar actress Tillotama Shome, along with Jatin Goswami, Delhi IAS officer cum actor Abhishek Singh, Vijay Shrivastava, Kishan Mehra, and Lokesh Aggarwal.

Notable exclusions from the cast of Delhi Crime 2 include Denzil Smith and Yashaswini Dayama, who had played Vartika Chaturvedi’s (Shefali Shah) husband and daughter respectively, in Delhi Crime Season 1.

Delhi Crime Season 2 Crew

The new season of Delhi Crime brings on board National Award-winning director Rajesh Mapuskar, who has helmed the series. Rajesh Mapuskar won the National Award for Best Director for the Marathi feature, Ventilator. He has also written and directed the critically acclaimed Ferrari Ki Sawari for Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s production house. Richie Mehta, director and creator of Delhi Crime Season 1 is executive producer on Delhi Crime Season 2. Tanuj Chopra is the co-director and showrunner on Delhi Crime Season 2.

Delhi Crime Season 2 Plot –

Delhi Crime Season 1 had dealt with the horrendous Nirbhaya rape case. After covering such a shattering and disturbing crime in the first season itself, the writers and creators of Delhi Crime Season 2 obviously found it difficult to zero in on a Delhi-centred crime with the intensity and brutality to match up to Delhi Crime Season 1. The Nithari serial killings have been documented in several shows already, prominent among them being ZEE5’s Abhay Season 1.

After much sorting, sifting and deliberation, Richie Mehta and the Delhi Crime Season 2 team hit upon the spree of brutal murders cum robberies carried out by the ruthless Kaccha Baniyan gang in nineties Delhi. The Kaccha Baniyan gang, also called the Chaddi Baniyan gang, is a bunch of heartless criminals, mostly from the Phase Pardhi tribe, who enter homes with vulnerable senior citizens, murder the residents in a shockingly pitiless and cruel manner, before robbing the houses of valuables. Even more frightening is the fact that these criminals operate in gangs of even up to 15 members. They are dressed only in their undergarments while committing the crimes, hence the name, Kachha Baniyan gang. In Delhi Crime Season 2, Vartika Chaturvedi and her eagle-eyed team will go after this notorious gang, active since the nineties.

The official synopsis from Netflix reads – “Inspired by true events, Vartika spearheads another crucial investigation with her team to save Delhi and its senior citizens from a heinous gang of killers.”

Delhi Crime Season 2 Release Date –
Delhi Crime Season 2 has almost completed production, with only a bit of post-production work left to complete. Netflix has left no stone unturned to match the production values and slickness of storytelling of Delhi Crime Season 2 with those of Delhi Crime Season 1.

There’s no official information from Netflix yet, regarding the release date for Delhi Crime Season 2. Since the Delhi Crime new season is almost complete, we can safely assume that the show will premiere on Netflix in the second half of August or early September.

For those who don’t know, Delhi Crime debuted on Netflix back in March 2019, and became an instant hit. It received accolades from critics, audiences and industry stalwarts for its sharp yet sensitive storytelling. It is the only Indian show to win the International Emmy Award For Best Drama Series. Suffice to say, Delhi Crime is the one glittering jewel in Netflix’s India story. In texture and treatment, it is at par with the best international police procedural shows; which is why, fans simply cannot wait for Delhi Crime Season 2 to premiere on Netflix.

Stay tuned to Binged.com for further details on Delhi Crime Season 2 on Netflix.
