Netflix has just released the first teaser of its most-anticipated film of the year, the star-studded, “Don’t Look Up“. The one-minute teaser is everything we expected, and yet, nothing like what we imagined. Before we get to the nitty-gritty of it, here’s the cool info – Don’t Look Up arrives worldwide on Netflix on 24th December. The film will release in select theatres before that, on 10th December.
To get back to the teaser, the viewer will be shocked to see a bedraggled Leonardo DiCaprio in the opening scenes. Those used to see the handsome star in a suave sophisticated persona, be prepared to be surprised. The next person we see on screen is Jennifer Lawrence, making the discovery of her life.
The narrative is a rollicking comedy about two “low-level astronomers” who have a tough task in hand. An asteroid is approaching Earth, with the potential to destroy Earth, and the two must launch a massive media blitz to warn the world about the impending danger. Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence play the two astronomers.
The two find themselves in a hapless situation. Not even the leader of the land (a sparkling Meryl Streep) is prepared to believe the gravity of the situation. It is then obviously a monumental task to convince the common man without triggering panic.
The film is written and directed by Adam McKay, who describes it as a dark satirical comedy. McKay’s 2018 movie ‘Vice’ won eight Oscar nominations, while his 2016 movie ‘The Big Short’ had won the Oscar for adapted screenplay.
Don’t Look Up features a staggering cast, some of whom give a fleeting glimpse in the teaser. Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Rob Morgan, Jonah Hill, Mark Rylance, Tyler Perry, Timothée Chalamet, Ron Perlman, Ariana Grande, Scott Mescudi, Cate Blanchett and Meryl Streep are some of the names in the glittering cast.
Jennifer Lawrence returns to screens after a self-imposed hiatus. Her last, very brief appearance was in Up
the 2019 X-Men: Dark Phoenix. This is the first time she will appear in an out and out comedy flick.
