The upcoming Netflix ‘Resident Evil’ live-action series has revealed its main cast. Actor Lance Reddick, who is known for his roles in ‘Fringe’, ‘Lost’, and the ‘John Wick’ films, has been cast as Albert Wesker, a character from the original game.
Lance Reddick has confirmed the same on Twitter with a picture of him along with other cast members of the series. Alongside Reddick, the live-action series will also feature Ella Balinska, Tamara Smart, Siena Agudong, Adeline Rudolph, and Paola Nuñez.
The ‘Resident Evil’ live-action series will be based on Capcom’s globally popular and landmark survival horror video game series ‘Resident Evil’, which has shipped over 11 crore copies worldwide.
(Spoilers Ahead) Albert Wesker’s character in the video game series was featured as one of its main antagonists. He was initially introduced as a supporting character in the first Resident Evil Game as a police team captain. His evil intentions and true colors were revealed later. The ‘Resident Evil‘ live-action series will reportedly comprise eight episodes, each with a runtime of sixty minutes. The story is said to revolve around two timelines. As per the official Netflix logline, the series is described as being “set nearly three decades after the discovery of the T-virus, an outbreak reveals the Umbrella Corporation’s dark secrets.”
The immense popularity of the Japanese video game ‘Resident Evil’ franchise eventually led to the making of a parallel film series of the same name. Until now, six ‘Resident Evil’ films have been released, which have grossed over $1.2 billion worldwide, making it the highest-grossing film series based on a video game.
Furthermore, a seventh ‘Resident Evil’ reboot film ‘Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City’ is slated to release on November 24, 2021.
Besides a ‘Resident Evil’ reboot movie and the live-action series already in the works, another game-based animated series ‘Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness’ is scheduled to start streaming on Netflix from July 8, 2021, onwards.
