“Hillbilly Elegy” a Netflix original film will be releasing on 24th November and streaming online on Netflix. The story is inspried by memoir of the same name written by J. D. Vance and focuses on a white culture that have always been negatively stereotyped in white culture. The culture of hillbillies, the people of Appalachian is what is deemed to be.
Just like the movie tells how a Yale student who somehow pushes back his barriers gets reeled back again to his roots of being a hillbilly. He sees his mother being sucked into addiction while his grandmother is fighting tooth and nail to keep everybody sane and alive. The story focuses on the roles of 3 generations of a family and how the roles of a grandparent, parent and child are interconnected. An emotionally moving film that focuses on the accounts of family really well. But besides that, it also does focus on a culture that is mostly not talked about or people avoid it.
The culture and families of hillbillies are always considered to be of the poor category, farmer families, sticking to their families, not going outside of their hometown people. Besides that they are stereotyped to be rude, tabacco eating people who have no idea of modernization. While, even though people are getting uplifted now by coming out for education and work, these stereotypes have made them stay together in packs and small areas out of the city.
Every count of a hillbilly has always mentioned that life has been hard and though for them because they have always been categorised for coming from a place that people look down upon. These gives us the idea that not white people got the right privileges or even rights
The movie has academy award winner Amy Adams, followed by Glenn Close and Gabriel Basso. The movie is directed by Ron Howard and the trailer itself will leave a strong imprint on you. Stay tuned for the movie.
