Ankita Bansal, who was one of the most fiesty contestants on Netflix’s popular reality show, Indian Matchmaking, may not have found love or her ideal partner on the show. But she’s now enjoying a surprising benefit of being featured in the globally streamed show. Within days of the show being streamed on Netflix, Ankita Bansal’s denim brand ‘THERE!’ saw business skyrocketing, and that too on a global scale.
Indian Matchmaking won the popularity stakes almost instantly after it debuted on Netflix. Viewers were particularly charmed by New Delhi resident Ankita Bansal, owing to her fierce independence, her refusal to budge from her principles to please potential suitors and standing up for them too. So, even though Ankita hadn’t found her always ever after by the time Indian Matchmaking Season 1 ended, she had won audience’s hearts.
The happy consequence of that was the effect on her business. The show had extensively focused on the fledgling business she ran – her own denim apparel brand called ‘THERE!’. Soon, Ankita Bansal and her partner in business – her sister – were inundated with orders for the smart, reasonably priced denim casuals. Demand poured in, not only from India, but also from all over the world. The sisters were stunned to know that demand for their brand went up by a massive 700%!
The girls had been planning on going international next year. Instead, they were compelled to hurry up putting in place a system to ship their clothes to international destinations. And all this within days of the premiere of Indian Matchmaking on Netflix.
Well, that did turn out beautifully for Ankita Bansal. Her business is going great guns now, and she couldn’t be happier. Netflix‘s Indian Matchmaking is a dating reality show, created by award-winning creator, Smriti Mundra. It centres on the typical Indian tradition of having a matchmaker bring two people together – what we call arranged marriage in India. Sima Taparia from Mumbai is the matchmaker who goes about bringing men and women together in the Netflix show.
Netflix hasn’t given the go-ahead for Indian Matchmaking S2 yet. But for Ankita, Season 1 turned out to be a bonanza!
