Netflix’s latest Korean project is none other than the adaptation of one of its most viewed shows ‘La Casa de Papel’ aka ‘Money Heist’. This hit Spanish original series will now have its very own Korean version!
The adaptation will be set in Korea and will have twelve episodes for now. Through this new Korean version of ‘La Casa de Papel’ Netflix aims to present a familiar story in a new way to its audience worldwide, building further on the international popularity of the Spanish original.
The Korean version of ‘La Casa de Papel’ will be directed by the giant of Korean fantasy crime genre Kim Hong-sun (‘The Guest’, ‘Voice’, and ‘Black’). The screenplay for the series comes from Ryu Yong-jae and his team, who are known for their work in Netflix original series ‘My Holo Love’ and tvN series ‘Psychopath Diary’. BH Entertainment and Contents Zium will jointly produce the show.
Alex Pina, Creator and Executive Producer of La casa de papel said: “Korean creators have been developing their own language and audiovisual culture for years. They have managed, like our series, to go beyond cultural borders and become a point of reference for thousands of viewers around the world, especially among young people.”
He added, “That is why I find it fascinating that the world of La casa de papel is so attractive to Korean creators as to do an adaptation. The fact that the action is set on the Korean Peninsula also seems to me to be a milestone which I am really delighted about.”
‘La Casa de Papel’ premiered first in 2017 and has been one of the most successful Netflix shows. This reflects in the stats of the fourth season of the Spanish series that was watched by over 65 million households globally in the first four weeks, on its release in April this year. Currently the fifth and final season of ‘La Casa de Papel’ is in production at Netflix.
Further information about the Korean adaptation of ‘La Casa de Papel’ will be revealed by Netflix in the coming days. Stay tuned to binged.com for all the latest updates about it.
