One of the most significant nuclear disasters in the history of the USA gets a documentary adaptation which revisits the incidents that led to the accident. The accident happened in Pennsylvania in 1979, a reactor at three-mile island faced a partial meltdown. The documentary titled as “Meltdown: Three Mile Island” will be a four-part series which explores the reasons and repercussions of the event.
The show is directed by Academy Award–nominated director Kief Davidson and is produced by Michael and Carla Shamberg and Moxie Pictures. The catastrophe will be narrated through the lens of Richard Parker, the chief engineer and whistle-blower.
The documentary will also look into many controversies where the government and the nuclear plant’s parent company Metropolitan Edison are both in the list of culprits who made the impact of the accident wider. The trailer features many interviews with the people who witnessed the disaster and the show will raise several questions as Netflix tries to revisit the event.
The director Davidson believes that the lessons from the disaster will resonate beyond the period and there will be heroes among the greedy corporations whose small acts of bravery changed the course of history. He also said “We need to learn from the Three Mile Island disaster as we face the current climate and energy crisis”. It is sure the documentary will be an eye-opening experience for the viewers.
The Chernobyl disaster was also made into a series by HBO which became a worldwide sensation. The trailer of Meltdown: Three Mile Island also promises a dissociation of unbiased truth which also portrays the horrors of the accident. It will be available on Netflix to stream from May 4 2022.
