Netflix‘s new true crime film ‘Girl In The Picture’ has quickly climbed the charts in most countries of the world where Netflix is available. The film premiered on Netflix on July 6, and within the first few days itself, it has become the subject of huge chatter on social media. The reason for this is the harrowing premise at the centre of the true crime film.
On the face of it, Netflix’s ‘Girl In The Picture‘ is the story of a young woman’s mysterious death and the subsequent kidnapping of her young son. But as the story unfolds, it leads to the unravelling of a decades-old mystery that is shocking and horrifying beyond measure.
Netflix subscribers who watched ‘Girl In The Picture’ cannot get over the macabre nature of the film. It is such a difficult film to watch that many viewers are unable to watch it in a single sitting. ‘Girl In The Picture’ is enough to leave even the most hardened viewers traumatised. Yet, it is also one of the most compelling films on Netflix currently. It has scored a high 94% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. It is the talk of the town on social media. But its “traumatising quotient” cannot be denied. More so, because it is a true crime film – yes, it is based on a real-life story that is beyond horrific to comprehend.
Comments from Netflix subscribers who’ve watched ‘Girl In The Picture’ give us a fair indication of the traumatising nature of the film. One Twitter user wrote, “Girl In The Picture on Netflix is absolutely one of the most horrific, sickening, frightening things I’ve watched. I’m at a loss for words”.
Another said, “I had a hard time sleeping after watching it. My heart just cannot. So many people failed her. took me 3 days to watch this. I needed time to process how sick this was”.
