Netflix’s New Italian Film ‘The Tearsmith’ Whips Up Huge Buzz

Netflix’s New Italian Film ‘The Tearsmith’ Whips Up Huge Buzz

Erin Doom’s Italian novel ‘The Tearsmith’, known as ‘Fabbricante di lacrime’, shot to the top of the charts when it first released back in 2022. Always the first to spot a potential blockbuster, Netflix snapped up the film adaptation rights for the book, and is all set to release ‘The Tearsmith’ movie on its platform this April. Italian movie The Tearsmith premieres on Netflix worldwide on 4th April, 2024.

Netflix’s ‘The Tearsmith’ is drumming up huge buzz on social media and TikTok abroad, owing to the already prevalent craze surrounding the novel and its fandom. Fans of Erin Doom’s novel are hoping that the movie is as deliciously dark as the story in the novel. The tagline of ‘The Tearsmith’ novel is “a gripping tale of impossible love”. Let’s hope the ‘The Tearsmith’ movie stands up to fans’ expectations.

The Tearsmith is a dark story, with elements of forbidden love and the supernatural in it. The official synopsis of the movie reads -“Sometimes our greatest fear is accepting that someone can honestly love us for who we are. Nica and Rigel are ready to find it out together.”

The story follows Nica, who has grown up in the grimmest of orphanages and is policed by a nasty matron that makes things miserable for all involved. To escape from her tortured reality, Nica would create her own imaginative stories, populated by the Tearsmith, a supernatural force that creates the anxieties and fears that live in our hearts. Things look up for her when Nica is adopted, however, she finds that the family she lives with has also adopted another orphan, Rigel, an enigmatic and troubled soul, whom she is conflicted about and will ultimately play an important part in her future.

Netflix’s The Tearsmith movie has been directed by Alessandro Genovesi. Caterina Ferioli plays Nica Dover, while Simone Baldassari essays the role of Rigel. The rest of the cast includes actors Alessandro Bedetti, Nicky Passarella, Eco Andriolo, Dana Melanie, among others.

Another interesting description of The Tearsmith reads – “Inside the walls of Grave, the orphanage where Nica grew up, stories and legends have always been told by candlelight. The most famous is that of the producer of tears, a mysterious craftsman with clear eyes like glass, guilty of having forged all the fears and anxieties that inhabit the hearts of men. His greatest dream, in fact, is about to come true. The Milligans have started the adoption process and are ready to give her the family she always wanted.”

“In the new house, however, Nica is not alone. Along with her, Rigel is also taken away from Grave, a restless and mysterious orphan, the last person in the world that Nica would want as an adopted brother. Although Nica and Rigel are united by a common past of pain and deprivation, coexistence between them seems impossible. Especially when the legend creeps back into their lives and the tears maker suddenly becomes real, closer and closer”.

Phew, sounds super interesting, right?

‘The Tearsmith’ premieres on Netflix worldwide on 4th April, 2024, including in India.
