Julia Quinn’s eight Bridgerton novels deserve eight seasons from Netflix, according to the show’s creator, Chris Van Dusen. He would love to make eight seasons for all eight books from Quinn. The series got renewed for a third and a fourth season way back in April 2021, nearly a year before Season 2’s release. However, Van Dusen and his team will face numerous troubles on their path to deliver eight seasons to fans.
In an interview with Collider last year, Van Dusen revealed his intentions of making eight Bridgerton seasons. “I feel like the first season was primarily about Daphne and her love story with Simon,” he said. “But, this being a family of eight children and there being eight books, I would love to be able to focus and really tell stories and love stories for all the Bridgerton siblings. For each character, for sure.”
Netflix is determined to turn Bridgerton into a long-running series. However, the streaming platform’s strategy with the show may not aid Van Dusen in achieving his dream.
Season 3 was supposed to arrive on Netflix in December this year. However, the ongoing actors’ strike forced the streaming giant to push back Season 3’s release to 2024, leaving us with no exact release window. At the present rate, the platform is bestowing a new season about every two years. It means the fans may get the final season in 2034.
Bridgerton made its grand debut in December 2020. By the time its eighth season arrives on Netflix, the show will have completed 14 years. And 14 years is a very long period. This scenario could seriously affect fans’ interest in the show, ultimately affecting the show’s viewership. Additionally, actors will age out of the characters they are portraying. Furthermore, we cannot expect all the actors to stay connected with the show till 2034. Performers like Phoebe Dynevor and Regé-Jean Page have left the series as they outgrew their characters.
Currently, Bridgerton treasures a significant and loyal fanbase. However, this fanbase may get shattered in future as they could lose interest in the show.
