Netflix’s Rebel Moon director Zack Snyder has revealed that Part Two: The Scargiver will be more of a ‘war movie’ than the first one, A Child of Fire.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Snyder discussed ‘The Scargiver’ in detail and pointed out how the second part differed from its predecessor. Part One served as a world-building entry for the Rebel Moon franchise. While it had some good elements, ‘A Child of Fire’ was also butchered by critics for relying way too heavily on its world-building approach, lack of violence, standard action sequences, and overutilisation of slo-mo sequences.
Zack Snyder has guaranteed that ‘The Scargiver’ will have more action than the first entry and teased some major changes.
“Part Two is a war movie. We know that Noble’s alive, and Balisarius has given him the task of finding his daughter and bringing her back to him at all costs. So the stakes have risen for the village from ‘hey, we want some of your grain’ to now ‘you’re harboring the most wanted fugitive in the history of the galaxy,’” Snyder said.
We witnessed Noble coming back to life during the final moments of Part One. Balisarius wants to get his hands on Kora at any cost. On the other hand, Kora wants to protect her village from Balisarius’ wrath. We do not know what will happen to her village. But we know for sure that fans will see more of Fra Fee’s Balisarius in Part 2.
‘A Child of Fire’ was also criticised for not using some characters properly, particularly Ray Fisher’s Darrian Bloodaxe. We don’t want Zack Snyder to repeat this mistake in the upcoming sequel. Apart from Kora (Sofia Boutella) and Noble (Ed Skrein), other characters such as Balisarius, General Titus (Djimon Hounsou), and Nemesis (Doona Bae) deserve more screen time in Part Two.
Despite being a critical failure, Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire became a substantial streaming success, gaining over 34 million views and over 77 million viewing hours in its first two weeks. Its second part, The Scargiver, will come out on April 19, 2024. Stay tuned for more updates.
