Fans are dying to get their hands on Sex Education Season 4. The final season will arrive on Netflix on September 21. Diehard fans are expecting to witness a happy ending to the overall show with the fourth season. However, showrunner Laurie Nunn’s recent comments about Season 4 may break your heart. Prepare to take a grain of salt!
Nunn has teased that Season 4 may have a bittersweet ending. This is what she said in her recent interview with The Guardian:
“I’m hopeful that there’s a bittersweetness to the ending, and that there’s everything people want in there, even though it might not be wrapped up completely perfect,” said Nunn.
This scenario raises lots of questions about various plot elements in the show, especially about the slow-burning romance between Emma Mackey’s Maeve and Asa Butterfield’s Otis. The duo finally got together in Season 3, only to get separated again after Maeve decided to go to the United States. The Guardian’s story also reveals that the four primary characters: Maeve, Otis, Ncuti Gatwa’s Eric, and Gillian Anderson’s Jean, will have “little interaction” with one another in the final season due to their respective storylines. We have already witnessed Maeve starting to explore her writing abilities in the US and Otis feeling lonely in the fourth season’s promotional video clips. This indicates that the duo may not emerge as the endgame couple.
Sex Education Season 4 will be significantly different from previous entries as viewers may witness a shift of focus towards new characters, such as Roman, Aisha, Abbi, Cal, and more. These characters may reduce the screen time of our old favorite characters in the final entry, a decision that may end up disappointing many fans.
Debuting back in January 2019, Sex Education is one of Netflix’s flagship shows. Stream all episodes on Netflix. Stay tuned for more updates.
