Whenever romance and thriller are put together either one gets something amazing or something that the world would like to forget. Netflix’s latest, “Rebecca” is of this genre. A romantic love life, a huge mansion, a creepy housekeeper is all we need to make this story exciting and dark. Releasing on the 21st of October, “Rebecca” is the story of woman who fights with something that she doesn’t even know what it is.
This movie shows the journey of a young woman who hasn’t seen much wealth and happiness in her life but steals the heart of wealthy widower who is ready to give her his everything and anything. A short romance and a beautiful marriage leads her to the this huge, ginormous mansion that has “DANGEROUS” written infront of it in bold (well, not literally but wouldn’t be surprised if it said). With such a huge mansion, always comes a housekeeper and this was nothing different. The mansion came with Mrs. Danvers, the creepy old woman who looks less like a housekeeper and more like the lady of the house. Mrs. Danvers cannot handle the idea of a new Mrs. de Winters. She is obsessed with keeping the legacy of Rebecca de Winters alive in the house.
Lily James plays the lead character in the movie who is not known by her first but rather her last name, “the new Mrs. de Winters”. She is being driven crazy in that big old mansion by the housekeeper, played skillfully by Kristin Scott Thomas who has devoted herself in loving and keeping alive the legacy of Rebecca de Winters alive. Married to Mr. Maxim deWinter, character played by Armie Hammer, Mrs. deWinters starts doubting her husband, realizing he must be holding a deep dark secret inside him and who might still be in love with dead wife makes matters even more worse.
Adapted from the best selling novel of the same name by Daphne du Maurier, Rebecca is directed by Ben Wheatley and is based in the United Kingdom. The movie has already been released in select British theaters on 16th of October and set to release digitally worldwide on Netflix
