Netflix’s period drama ‘The Crown’ has cast Oscar nominated actor, Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip for season five and six.
Pryce steps into the shoes of Tobias Menzies who played the part in season three and will reprise it in season four and Matt Smith who played the young Duke of Edinburgh in the first two seasons.
He will star along with Imelda Staunton and Lesly Manville who will play the Queen and Princess Margaret respectively.
He has previously been seen in shows such as Game of Thrones, and films like ‘Tomorrow Never Dies’ and more recently in ‘Two Popes’ which earned him an Oscar and Golden Globe nomination.
‘The Crown’ is one of Netflix’s most successful British shows. It recently got renewed for a sixth and final season and follows the British Royal Family and in particular Queen Elizabeth II from her early days of ascension to the later years.
It has garnered 13 Emmy nominations for its latest season and set to premiere season four later this year which will focus on Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s marriage and the first woman prime minister of the U.K., Margaret Thatcher.
