Netflix has unveiled the trailer for its upcoming original series ‘The Royals’ and this one supposedly takes glamour too seriously. Directed by Priyanka Ghosh and Nupur Asthana and written by Neha Veena Sharma, ‘The Royals’ will land on Netflix on 9th May, 2025.
‘The Royals’ revolves around Aviraaj Singh (Ishaan Khattar), heir to the royal throne of Morpur and Sophie Kanmani Shekhar (Bhumi Pednekar), CEO of a successful startup. While the former is a polo playing, pleasure seeking, party prince, the latter is a high functioning, tightly wound, ace business owner. When they meet sparks and insults fly as they reluctantly come together to save his royally dysfunctional family from financial ruin and to save her own leading startup of luxury home stays in India from shark investment bankers.
Overall, ‘The Royals’ stands true to its name in terms of a lavish outlook despite the internal financial crisis. There’s moments of fun, romance, drama and much more in this new Netflix India series.
Although it cannot be denied that the premise looks pretty predictable and outdated that’s just being presented in a new glamourised costume. Everything feels too plastic and fake with no touch of realism. Moreover, the lack of romantic chemistry between the lead pair is so evident in the trailer that even the steamy moments feel forced.
It will be interesting to see how ‘The Royals’ is perceived by the audience. Whether the extravaganza will be loved by the viewers or will they feel too alienated from it.
‘The Royals’ is led by Bhumi Pednekar, making her series debut alongside Ishaan Khattar. Rounding out the ensemble cast are Zeenat Aman, Sakshi Tanwar, Nora Fatehi, Dino Morea, Milind Soman, Chunky Panday, Vihaan Samat, Kavya Trehan, Sumukhi Suresh, Udit Arora, Lisa Mishra and Luke Kenny.
‘The Royals’ arrives on Netflix this 9th May, 2025.
