It was quite recently that Netflix’s ‘Fate: The Winx Saga’ was canceled after two seasons. While the first season did well on the streamer, the second season got relatively smaller numbers. Add to it the fact that the cost will increase for producing another season due to increased talent costs and the not-so-good reviews it got, it was no surprise that the series was axed. But this move, for the creator of Winx Club Iginio Straffi, is a blessing in disguise.
For the creator of the magical ‘Winx Club’ TV franchise Straffi, Netflix canceled the series finally allowing him to start work on the most important project of his career, a Winx Club live-action film. It seems that contractually, it is only now upon the live-action TV series’ cancellation that he can move forward with his goal. He will be pitching an over $100M budgeted project to various studios. The film, according to him, will be something along the lines of Harry Potter or superhero movies.
So will the film be similar to the series? Thankfully no. The movie will be having a much lighter tone than what the Netflix series had. The movie will also feature the main antagonists of the animated series- the Trix, whom the Netflix series did not have. Straffi aims to make the film a nostalgic piece for the fans rather than just another teen drama in the fantasy genre. The movie will also feature transformations and witch fights and hopefully, be better than that of the series’.
Netflix’s series based on the Winx Club animated series was not well received by the fans of the original. From casting to the plot, the series was trolled left, right, and center on social media. By the looks of it, the proposed movie will be better accepted and appreciated by the fans. Though the film is still in its early stages and is too soon to even ascertain if it will take shape, the news has got fans excited. Get on board a good director and write an engaging script, and the movie may wash away the memory of the Netflix series from the minds of disappointed fans.
