We Can Be Heroes, Robert Rodriguez’s spin-off to his 2005 fantasy superhero flick The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl, dropped on Christmas on Netflix. The film has been a huge hit so far. In fact, the response from Netflix users to We Can Be Heroes has been so resounding that the OTT streaming giant has decided to greenlight a sequel for this action superhero flick.
We Can Be Heroes, which dropped on 25th December on Netflix, has reached No. 1 for kids programming in 88 out of 93 countries. It was also among the top 10 of all featured movies around the globe, right after its debut. The film is projected to be watched by 44 million households after its 28 day run. Time will tell, as we wait for the results.
The Christmas Netflix film is not a huge hit among critics and it has fared poorly among the ones in IMDb and Metacritic. However, Rotten Tomatoes has given it a 68% (possibly taking the target audience into account). We Can Be Heroes however did surprisingly well in the 16 – 23 age demographic because of the film it was spun-off from – The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3-D. That film is still deemed a classic by young adults of the aforementioned age group and a cameo from Lavagirl didn’t hurt in reeling in fans of the previous film either.
We Can Be Heroes has an ensemble cast featuring Pedro Pascal, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, YaYa Gosselin, Boyd Holbrook, Sung Kang, Taylor Dooley and Christian Slater. The film starts off with Earth’s superheroes getting kidnapped by alien invaders. Their children must team up and learn to work together if they want to save their parents and the world.
We Can Be Heroes is currently streaming on Netflix.
