Asian content and it has been gaining major attention. Out of these Asian content, one that has been bringing people towards Netflix is fans of Korean drama. Yes, the dramas that have set examples of being extremely good and enormously perfect. One such drama on Netflix that has recently been making headlines is “Nevertheless”. Nevertheless is one of the rarest Korean dramas that is breaking the stereotype of the classic Korean love story and we have certain few things to say about it.
Well, first of all, it’s never bad to break the stereotypes of the dramas that have been showing and projecting “love” in a whole different way, over the years now. “Nevertheless” stars the enigmatic and young Song Kang and the brilliantly talented Han So-hee in the lead roles. They have been paired opposite each other for the first time in their careers. While Song Kang has been known to take on roles that don’t fit the “K-Drama” norms, Han So-hee despite being a super young actress, has been flawlessly taking on the roles of the “other woman” in some famous Korean dramas.
Both have been hailed as brilliant actors and it clearly shows in the series too. The series is 10 episodes long and today is the release of the final episode. But, before the final episode drops, we want to break down the show for you a little bit. “Nevertheless” follows two young students of an Art Academy who meet each other and have gone through failed relationships. While the guy wants a relationship that just involves the skin and no expression of emotion, the girl falls for him despite knowing what he wants. Now, here’s the twist, even though she craves love she isn’t going ahead with it, because of her past relationships but enters the guy’s plans for having a “no emotional attachment” relationship. In modern western terms, it can be classified as a “no strings attached” relationship.
But, this. This is the most toxic thing of the entire series. Their concept of relationship has kept the second lead, who genuinely is in love hanging around like a puppy. The star couple fight, get back together, question their relationship, gaslight, move on, and then get back together once again just because they get pulled towards each other. Yes, if you think this sounds familiar, then you are right. The best thing about “Nevertheless” is that it tells a reality of a relationship, which exists in our daily lives, amongst our friend’s circles or maybe we have been part of such a phase in our lives.
Now, you might think, why should we watch this. That is we have prepared a list of Pros and Cons for you:
Pros-
Watch it for the chemistry between Song Kang and Han So-hee
Watch it because only Netflix might be able to offer you such a Korean drama
Watch it because of the supporting characters and the side stories
Watch it, if you love and adore aesthetic stuff and cinematography
Cons-
Don’t watch it if you have been affected by toxic relationships
Don’t watch it if you expect a fairytale love story, cuz’ it’s not that at all.
Don’t watch it if you are expecting a perfect ending, because as the story is near end, we still cannot expect a good ending
In the end, don’t watch it, if such stories make you mad and feel weak, because this makes you feel like entering your screens and screaming at the leads, that “please do something good”.
