It’s come to a point where any announcements regarding reboots and reimagining of classics from Hollywood have gotten fans concerned. After brutally destroying various films that have given us wonderful memories during childhood, the next target it seems is Disney’s deer child, Bambi.
While the original ‘Bambi’ was one of the saddest and heart-touching animated films ever made, the new movie surprisingly will be set in a horror premise. As per rumors, after the tragic death of Bambi’s mother, the deer- now reimagined as a “vicious killing machine”- will now be seen embarking on a journey for revenge, with the deer of the movie being described as! Fans who have grown up seeing the original Disney animated films have already made their displeasure known on social media:

Can we stop with this “what if a childhood movie became a killer” thing? It’s not going to put asses in seats and it’s forgotten a week later. pic.twitter.com/xcgAiwnwIw

The new Bambi film is not the only classic that is getting a dark retelling. Other announced and rumored films will be one on Winnie the Pooh and another on Peter Pan. Since the movies are in the public domain, the original’s makers are helpless in the case and cannot prevent such retellings.
The first ‘Bambi’ movie was released in 1942 and was produced by Disney. The movie dealt with Bambi’s adventures in the forest, accompanied by his friends. A story of love, loss, and life, the movie still has a place in people’s hearts. The second movie ‘Bambi II’ was released in 2006, and showed the deer reuniting with his father, his only surviving parent after his mother was killed in the first film by a hunter.
These are movies no one evidently wanted or wished for in the first place. With severe unfavorable reactions from fans on social media, the future of this worrying trend remains to be seen. Whatever the matter, it is definitely the best time to rewatch the previous movies. Both movies are available for streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
