The new untitled Evil Dead spinoff movie will be the sixth entry to Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead franchise. Raimi has helmed the first three entries: The Evil Dead (1981), Evil Dead II (1987), and Army of Darkness (1993). The rest, Evil Dead (2013) and Evil Dead Rise (2023), were helmed by Fede Alvarez and Lee Cronin, respectively. Now, we have Sébastien Vaniček as the helmer of the upcoming Evil Dead spinoff project.
In a recent interview with ComicBook, Vaniček revealed his intentions with the spinoff and how he wanted to honour Raimi through his work on the upcoming film.
“I need to have an intelligent movie or smart movie. And after, as soon as I have this, I will be able to do something crazy and with a lot of Deadites and things like that, and to have a strong movie, but I need to have a really strong basis and I think that the strong basis is in Sam Raimi’s work, so I’m trying to take the best of every part of even that.”
Sébastien Vaniček can make Raimi happy with his work in several ways. For instance, he can add more comedic elements to his forthcoming spinoff film, like what Raimi did with his trilogy. The last two entries from Alvarez and Cronin were darker and more serious than Raimi’s films. Alvarez intensified the elements of gore, savagery, violence, and gruesomeness in his 2013 film, while Cronin’s 2023 project exhibited greater focus and visual appeal than Alvarez’s work.
The success of Evil Dead Rise proves that fans still love the franchise. It earned $147 million globally against a $15-19 million budget. A good and fresh storyline with creative and spine-chilling horror elements are enough to save the new spinoff at the box office.
According to rumours, Sam Raimi chose Vaniček as the helmer for the new Evil Dead spinoff. It means the former trusts Vaniček’s work and his ability to take care of the film. Plus, Raimi is co-producting the film as well. This gives a perfect opportunity to Vaniček to learn from the best and use his advice to make his own film amazing and entertaining. Stay tuned for more updates.
