Fasten your seatbelt folks and get set for an adrenaline-fueled action-packed ride once again because the globe-trotting spy Jason Bourne (a character created by author Robert Ludlum) is all set to return to the big screen once again. As per the latest update, a new Jason Bourne movie is in the works at Universal Studios. As of now, the project is said to be in its early stages of development.
Now, you must be wondering whether the film series’ lead actor Matt Damon will reprise his role as the titular protagonist or not. But the bad news is that, at present, there is no update in this regard. Right now, there isn’t even a script in place. But if the potential Jason Bourne movie is not a reboot, then we can very much expect Matt Damon to play the popular character again.
One thing about the new Jason Bourne film which has got us excited is that the makers are in talks with Edward Berger to direct the project. Edward Berger is the German-Austrian filmmaker who had directed last year’s Oscar-winning anti-war film ‘All Quiet on The Western Front’. And his next film is a thriller called ‘Conclave’ featuring Ralph Fiennes in the lead role.
Until now, there have been five films from the Bourne universe. The first was Doug Liman’s ‘The Bourne Identity’ in which Matt Damon played an amnesic man who is found with bullet wounds and doesn’t remember his identity. He makes it his mission to know more about his life while being pursued by deadly assassins.
The next two films ‘The Bourne Supremacy’ and ‘The Bourne Ultimatum’ also starred Matt Damon and were helmed by Paul Greengrass. The fourth film ‘The Bourne Legacy’ revolved around another agent Aaron Cross (played by Jeremy Renner). Then, in 2016, Matt Damon made a comeback with the fifth movie simply titled ‘Jason Bourne’. Besides, a spin-off series ‘Treadstone’ was released in 2019.
