The helmer of the first two movies in the rebooted trilogy (Kelvin Timeline), J. J. Abrams has confirmed that a new Star Trek movie is currently in the works. Deadline first broke this news on the internet. Also, Paramount is trying to recruit the original cast consisting of Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, and many more for the fourth instalment in the rebooted Star Trek series.
However, it is not clear whether the studio will recast Anton Yelchin’s, Pavel Chekov. The actor lost his life back in 2016. His final on-screen appearance came in the form of Star Trek Beyond (2016). No new name has been announced to fill Yelchin’s shoes yet. We don’t know if the studio is planning to represent the character via CGI. But we will inform you as soon as we receive more information about this scenario.
The rebooted Star Trek series treasures some of the best additions to Gene Roddenberry’s space franchise. We all know how great Star Trek tv shows are. But when it comes to the movies, things are not as smooth as the Star Wars franchise.
Despite earning critical acclaim, the first two movies, Star Trek (2009) and Star Trek Into Darkness (2013), turned out to be a decent hit at the box office. And Beyond (2016) got doomed in terms of collection. It earned nearly $343.5 million against a staggering budget of $185 million. The lack of this franchise’s global prominence, disinterest in viewers, Paramount’s poor marketing, promotion, and inability to dispatch this project in a free release window wreaked havoc for Beyond during its theatrical run. Still, it seems like the studio is determined to give this series one more try to shine.
The new Star Trek movie will come out on December 22, 2023. But we don’t know if Abrams will helm this one or not. Stay tuned for more updates.
