Just when we thought Bollywood was finally getting back on its feet, COVID-19 strikes once again. Movies are now getting postponed and most of them indefinitely. The latest one to join is the much anticipated Emraan Hashmi and Amitabh Bachchan starrer “Chehre”. The movie was supposed to release theatrically on the 9th of April but the official news from filmmakers, released recently states that the movie won’t be releasing on the given date.
The recent ones that postponed their delay are Rana Daggubati’s “Haathi Mere Saathi” and the upcoming “Bunty Aur Babli 2”. The decision of postponement from the makers of Chehre has come up mostly due to the severe rise in the COVID-19 cases. Especially in the state of Maharashtra and of course the city of Mumbai.
Mumbai serves as one of the biggest markets for Hindi movies and it would be a huge loss if the films are not able to do their best in Mumbai. Not only that, a movie with Amitabh Bachchan and Emraan Hashmi in it, was already gaining attention and it was definitely expected to do well.
Delay of the release of Chehre is definitely not the first and going with the current situation, it looks like it won’t be the last too. Though, the government is taking strict actions to help curb the rise in COVID-19, but this second wave seems even stronger and is apparently spreading way faster.
Also, the government is working on newer protcols to contain the spread of the virus. This also brings theatres and other public places into the equation. Keeping in mind the financial business and also the interest of people, it can be said that the makers made a smart move with this decision.
As of now the makers have not revealed any further dates or how will the movie release next. As per reports India recorded 56,211 cases in the last 24 hours today, with Maharashtra, Delhi, Punjab, Karnataka, and Madhya Pradesh recording the highest cases.
