Veteran Hollywood actor Nicolas Cage has been in a terrific form of late and has delivered a string of critically acclaimed performances. Recently, the Academy Award-winning actor received widespread admiration for his roles in ‘Pig’, ‘The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent’, and ‘Butcher’s Crossing’. And now, he is all set to produce and star in a horror thriller movie titled ‘Longlegs’.
Although nothing concrete is known about the precise plot details of ‘Longlegs’, the film would ostensibly follow the pattern of classic Hollywood psychological thriller movies. The movie would be directed by Osgood Perkins (of ‘Gretel & Hansel’ fame).
Cinema enthusiasts must already be aware that ‘Longlegs’ is not the first time Nicolas Cage has tried his hands with the horror genre. And many of them clicked with the audiences and critics while some of them didn’t. Last year, he was also cast as the dreaded vampire Dracula in Chris McKay’s upcoming film ‘Renfield’. Although it’s not an out-and-out horror film.
Nicolas Cage’s prolific acting career is laced with several horror films. Previously, he had starred in the 1989 dark comedy horror flick ‘Vampire’s Kiss’, which eventually gained a cult following. In 2006, he acted in another horror movie ‘The Wicker Man’, which was a remake of the 1973 British horror movie of the same name. However, it was not received well by critics.
A year later, Nicolas Cage starred in Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino’s uniquely executed horror flick ‘Grindhouse’ (2007). Despite its positive feedback, the film failed to perform at the box-office.
In 2015, Nicolas Cage continued his tryst with the horror genre with the supernatural horror flick ‘Pay the Ghost’. Although this film was mostly panned by critics.
Subsequently, Nicolas Cage consecutively signed three more horror movies namely the comedy-horror film ‘Mom and Dad’ (2017), action-horror film ‘Mandy’ (2018), and sci-fi horror flick ‘Color Out of Space’ (2019). All these three movies garnered positive reviews from critics.
The last Nicolas Cage film with elements of horror was the 2021 action-comedy horror movie ‘Willy’s Wonderland’. Although the film received rather mixed reviews, Nicolas Cage’s performance was usually praised by cinema lovers.
Now, it would be interesting to see whether Nicolas Cage’s forthcoming horror movie ‘Longlegs’ will click with the audiences and critics or not. Besides, Nicolas Cage’s upcoming films include the western action flick ‘The Old Way’, the action comedy ‘The Retirement Plan’, and yet another action horror movie ‘Sympathy for the Devil’, amongst others.
