Fresh off the heels of his critically acclaimed performance as a truffle forager in ‘Pig’, veteran Hollywood actor Nicolas Cage will reportedly (via Deadline) be the lead actor in a Western action film titled ‘The Old Way’.
The film would be the actor’s concurrent foray into the western territory as he is set to star in another film of the Western genre ‘Butcher’s Crossing’. The filming of both these movies will purportedly be done back-to-back in Montana, where another recent Western film ‘The Ballad of Lefty Brown’ featuring Bill Pullman was also shot.
‘The Old Way’ will feature Nicolas Cage as Colton Briggs, a retired gunslinger who now leads a quiet life with his wife and daughter while managing a general store for his living. His uneventful life suddenly takes a U-turn when his wife is brutally murdered by a gang of outlaws. The devastated husband returns to his old gunslinging ways to avenge his wife’s death with an unlikely partner – his 12-year-old daughter.
Regarding his maiden western film, Nicolas Cage had said that “After 43 years in cinema, I’m only now being invited to the important and storied genre of the Western with both The Old Way and Butcher’s Crossing. Being born and raised in the West, this is another good match and long overdue. I’m excited and compelled by the complex characters of both Briggs and Miller, and to find new ground to play at 57 is indeed galvanizing.”
Not many people might be aware that the academy award-winning actor Nicolas Cage is the nephew of legendary filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola. However, he has successfully carved a niche for himself as a celebrated Hollywood actor. And now, it would be interesting to see the actor in his first foray into the Western film genre.
While the release date of ‘The Old Way’ is not yet announced, Nicolas Cage’s forthcoming projects include the action-comedy film ‘The Retirement Plan’ and another comedy movie ‘The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent’ in which he will star as himself.
