Nicole Kidman’s Horror Thriller ‘The Others’ Getting Remade!!

The surprise horror hit of 2001 ‘The Others’, is being remade with Universal Pictures and Sentient Entertainment partnering up to co-produce the venture. The Nicole Kidman starrer was a phenomenon at the time of it’s release and it earned Kidman a BAFTA nomination and a Golden Globe nomination.

Hailing from the mind of Alejandro Amenabar, who penned the script as well as directed the movie, he too received a BAFTA nomination for his efforts. The $17 million budgeted film grossed more than $200 million, making the film an immediate box office success. And for a film of the horror genre, it was incredibly rare for the film to receive such success during the time period of it’s release.

The film follows Kidman’s character Grace Stewart, who lives in a remote country house on the British island of Jersey, in the year 1945. One day, one of her children discover “others” living in their house – a man, a woman, an old woman and a child named Victor – who claim that “the house is theirs”. The film has a plot twist similar to ‘The Sixth Sense’, so it will be interesting to see how they will incorporate the suspense/twist in this film.

So far, no plot details have been given by either production company, with everything kept tightly under wraps. Universal Pictures optioned the rights to “The Others” from Sentient Entertainment, which acquired control of the rights in a heated bidding war from FilmSharks-owned The Remake Co. and Video Mercury, back in April. Sentient made the deal with FilmSharks CEO Guido Rud and Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo’s Video Mercury. Cerezo originally acquired the movie rights when he purchased Sogecine.
