Netflix filled 2020 with a variety of content but the ones that stood out were the true crime content such as Unsolved Mysteries, American Murder, I Am A Killer etc. These shows developed a huge fan following in no time and such is the genre of true crime as it draws people towards itself. Now with a jam packed 2020, Netflix has already sorted it’s plans for 2021 and they are bringing a brand new true crime docuseries which is going to be based on the serial killer Richard Ramirez.
The show which is titled Night Stalker will follow Richard’s crime spree from 1984-1985 where he was a part of several killings, sexual assaults etc. Netflix released an official trailer for the show which has several chilling moments from the case. What made the police work hard was that there were no patterns to his killings as he chose his victims randomly, be it a 6 year child or an 80 year old. His only MO was that he used to hunt at night which eventually gave him the nickname – Night Stalker!
Night Stalker has been directed by Tiller Russell who himself was fascinated by the story of Ramirez. The show is filled with thrilling enactments of the incidents that happened during the 80s, coupled with the first person interviews who tell their horrific encounter with the Night Stalker and how they narrowly escaped from the monster. Plus there have been several videos and interviews from the 80s where people of California tell how terrified they were of Ramirez. What made them feel unsafe was that his next victim could be anyone regardless of gender or age!
The official synopsis reads :-
“Racing against the clock to stop this nocturnal monster were a young detective named Gil Carrillo from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and the legendary homicide investigator Frank Salerno. As they worked tirelessly to solve the case, the media hounded their tracks, and panic gripped California.”
And for everyone who are still looking for something that would fill that void of ‘Mindhunter’, well Netflix seems to have got you covered. The 4 part docuseries will be premiering on January 13th 2021 on Netflix.
