The Malayalam actress Nimisha Sajayan has been making waves in Mollywood for a few years now, but 2021 has been her best year so far. In fact, out of the four movies she has been a part of this year – three of them were hits which got rave reviews for her acting prowess (‘The Great Indian Kitchen’, ‘Nayattu’ and ‘Malik’). Although the fourth film (One) wasn’t all that great, she does well in this movie as well. However, her latest performance in the Fahadh Faasil starrer, ‘Malik’, has made a must-watch Malayalam superstar overnight. With three brilliant movies already under her belt this year, there is no doubt that Nimisha Sajayan is the South-Indian actress of the year.
Nimisha Sajayan made her debut in the 2017 film, ‘Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum’ which was directed by her ‘Malik’ co-star, Dileesh Pothan and she was one of the main cast member among a trio of heavyweight actors – Suraj Venjaramoodu and Fahadh Faasil (another one of her ‘Malik’ co-stars). She established herself with her debut film, by holding her own against the veteran actors on screen. She eventually went on to do films like ‘Chola’ with Joju George, ‘Eeda’ with Shane Nigam and ‘Oru Kuprasidha Payyan’ with Tovino Thomas.
However, this year she has been a part of three immensely iconic Malayalam movies so far – ‘The Great Indian Kitchen’, ‘Nayattu’ and now ‘Malik’. The last movie may not have been the best film she has been a part of, all year (that film title will most likely be ‘The Great Indian Kitchen’), it still has one of her best performances so far. Of course, her performance in ‘The Great Indian Kitchen’ was magnificent, but that performance combined with her roles in ‘Nayattu’ and ‘Malik’ has shown us her versatility as an actor.
Many actors and actresses dream for a role from any of the three movies Nimisha participated in this year – and they will likely flub it. Nimisha took all three roles and played them to (almost) perfection and we can’t think of any other South-Indian actress who deserves the title “South-Indian Actress of The Year”. We wouldn’t be surprised if that title changes to “Indian Actress of The Year”.
