As you all know, after starring in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s blockbuster gangster thriller movie ‘Animal’, Bollywood heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor is all set to feature as Lord Ram in a massively mounted film based on the Hindu epic Ramayana. The movie is to be directed by ‘Dangal’ helmer Nitesh Tiwari.
Until now, as per several reports and rumors, besides Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Nitesh Tiwari’s cinematic version of Ramayana will also ostensibly feature Sai Pallavi as Goddess Sita, ‘KGF’ star Yash in the role of the Lanka king Ravana, ‘Gadar’ actor Sunny Deol as the mighty warrior Lord Hanuman, Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi, Bobby Deol as Kumbhakarna, and Rakul Preet Singh as Ravana’s sister Shurpanakha. But all this is yet to be officially confirmed.
And as per the latest buzz, Nitesh Tiwari’s big-ticket venture has just got even bigger. Because the makers have reportedly roped in legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan to play a pivotal role in the epic film. If the reports are to be believed, the veteran actor will be essaying the role of King Dasharatha in the Ramayana movie. Previously, Ranbir Kapoor and Amitabh Bachchan shared screen space in Ayan Mukerji’s superhero movie ‘Brahmastra’. The decision to cast an actor of Amitabh Bachchan’s caliber and stature will definitely be a huge plus point for the film.
Having said that, making another film on the subject of Ramayana is a double-edged sword, especially after the box-office debacle of another expensive adaptation – Om Raut’s ‘Adipurush’ which featured Prabhas in the titular role. But we suppose that Nitesh Tiwari and his team are well aware of that, and they must have been cautious before taking the plunge. The film is purportedly set as a trilogy, but flawless execution of the first Ramayana film will be of utmost importance owing to the aforementioned reasons.
Nitesh Tiwari’s movie based on Ramayana is expected to commence filming in March 2024 and the makers are eyeing a Diwali 2025 theatrical release. Stay tuned to Binged for the latest updates on the Ramayana movie.
