Malayalam star Nivin Pauly‘s much-delayed film ‘Thuramukham’ finally has a release date! After heavy speculation over whether Thuramukham will release directly on OTT or in theatres, the star of the film, Nivin Pauly has put an end to all the rumours. The period drama is all set to release exclusively in theatres on 20th January, 2022.
Thuramukham was one of the films that was stuck without a release date in the midst of the Coronavirus pandemic. The film has been ready for release for quite some time. It was first set for a theatrical release in May 2021, which was postponed to Diwali 2021, then December 2021. Now finally, the much-awaited film has a release date for 20th January, 2022. This time, let’s hope that Thuramukham does not get delayed again.
Thuramukham is a period drama film, directed by Rajeev Ravi. The screenplay has been written by Gopan Chidambaran. It is based on the play of the same name by his father, K. M. Chidambaran. The film stars Nivin Pauly and Nimisha Sajayan in lead roles, along with Poornima Indrajith, Indrajith Sukumaran, Arjun Ashokan, Sudev Nair, Manikandan R. Achari, Darshana Rajendran star in pivotal roles.
Thuramukham is set in the backdrop of forties and fifties Kochi. It shines a spotlight on the cruel ‘Chhapa’ system of allotting work to workers in the Kochi harbour. Tokens called ‘Chhapas’ were thrown amidst the workers. Whoever managed to get their hands on the tokens would get to work in the docks on that particular day. The system was unjust and brutal, leading to fights among the workers, and several deaths.
