Malayalam star Nivin Pauly’s long delayed film ‘Thuramukham’ is finally gearing up to see the light of day. The period drama film will release in theatres worldwide on 10th March, 2023, after a period of several disappointing delays.
If readers remember, ‘Thuramukham’ has been ready for release since early 2021, but has been waiting for its turn to hit theatres, amidst Covid-related delays. In the meanwhile, there had been a lot of heavy speculation that ‘Thuramukham’ will release directly on OTT, instead of waiting for an opportune theatrical date. However, all that is a thing of the past. Fans will finally get to see their favourite Malayalam stars Nivin Pauly and Joju George on the big screen in ‘Thuramukham’, on 10th March.
Thuramukham is a period drama film, directed by Rajeev Ravi. The screenplay has been written by Gopan Chidambaran. It is based on the play of the same name by his father, K. M. Chidambaran. The film stars Nivin Pauly, Joju George and Nimisha Sajayan in lead roles, along with Indrajith Sukumaran, Arjun Ashokan, Sudev Nair, Manikandan R. Achari, Senthil Krishna, Poornima Indrajith and Darshana Rajendran in pivotal roles.
Thuramukham is set in the backdrop of forties and fifties Kochi. It shines a spotlight on the cruel ‘Chhapa’ system of allotting work to workers in the Kochi harbour. Tokens called ‘Chhapas’ were thrown amidst the workers. Whoever managed to get their hands on the tokens would get to work in the docks on that particular day. The system was unjust and brutal, leading to fights among the workers, and several deaths.
Thuramukham is a hard-hitting film that deserves to be enjoyed on the big screen. The film releases in theatres on 10th March, 2023.
