The Bengali political drama ‘The Diary Of West Bengal’ is having its theatrical release today. But it is having no shows in Kolkata. Nor does it seem to have any show at all in other big cities of West Bengal.
The movie is written and directed by Sanoj Mishra and produced by Jitendra Narayan Singh Tyagi. It tells the story of a woman named Suhasini Bhattacharya who comes from East Pakistan at the time of the mass genocide of the 1970s. Suhasini;s husband had already died in East Pakistan and her other companions died in the journey. After she reaches Kolkata she faces many problems for love jihad and is treated with much discrimination. The new refugees are treated like votebanks by the ruling parties and Suhasini goes on to request the Indian government to put an end to this.
The production quality of the movie is pretty low and we can only have a hold at how well executed the plot is after watching it. But it seems there are no shows for the movie still. The date is very crucial. A lot of Bollywood classics are re-releasing today and they will give tough competition to any movie in theaters. But that does not mean we will not give any screen to the movie at all. The movie must be given enough screens to have a release and the audience can decide whether it will run or not.
