The first reactions of the anticipated ‘Nosferatu’ have started to come now. The movie is yet to have a wide release but it got its first public screening yesterday.
Nosferatu is a remake of Werner Herzog’s 1979 German movie of the same name which was a remake of F.W. Murnau’s 1922 classic expressionist movie. It takes its material from Bram Stoker’s ‘Dracula’ and adds on to it.
The movie is getting praises from critics who say this is the most hard hitting horror movie of the year. The performances of Lily Rose-Depp and Bill Skarsgard have been appreciated profusely. There are some who say that this is not Robert Eggers’ best work, but still meets the mark.
When Werner Herzog was remaking Nosferatu, there was a lot of controversy, but Eggers was accepted with intrigue and no one convicted him of blasphemy. And the filmmaker has been accepted into the league of masters of horror. From the reviews it looks like he has done justice to the story.
The movie is being said to have a devilish humour and that it will make you afraid of rats if you are not yet. After the wonderful ‘The Lighthouse’, ‘The Witch’ and ‘The Northman’, Robert Eggers’ new film promises fresh aspects of horror to be discovered by audiences.
The movie comes out on the 25th of December.
