A few years back every Durga Puja there used to be a Feluda movie in theaters. Bengalis have two loves that they do not compromise with and they are Durga Puja and Feluda and what could be better than the two coming together.
But now the movie industry seems to be going in a different direction and the Feluda movies are not releasing during the vacation anymore. Cop dramas have replaced them and there are new police thrillers every year in Puja. This year we have ‘Bohurupi’ which is a cop drama and it will probably turn out as the biggest blockbuster of the year as well. ‘Tekka’ is a hostage thriller but it can be tagged as a cop drama as well. ‘Dawshom Awbotar’ was released during Puja last year. It did not work out as expected but it had more hype than any other Bengali movie releasing that year.
This year a Feluda movie was releasing too but it was postponed, and it was a very right decision too. Because there is tough competition with three big titles releasing together. But it is strange how the industry landscape is changing and the audience is accepting this with love as well. But producers fearing to release a Feluda film at a time that was certain for Feluda movies is something new and is hinting towards more big changes.
