Diehard movie buffs must know that IMDb houses a list of the top 250 highest rated Indian movies of all time and keeps on updating it as per IMDb ratings. After a significant gap, an Indian movie from 2023 has been included in the IMDb top 250 Indian films list. It’s not Salman Khan’s latest movie ‘Tiger-3’ or Vijay’s ‘Leo’ but a relatively small, low-budget yet brilliant film – ‘12th Fail’.
National Film Award winning filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s (Director – ‘Parinda’, ‘1942: A Love Story’) latest directorial film ‘12th Fail’ was released a few weeks back in theatres. And it silenced all those who were speculating about the underwhelming box office prospects of the film. Because ‘12th Fail’ sprung a big box-office surprise and has grossed over Rs.31 crores.
And now, ‘12th Fail’ has achieved another distinction of being included in the coveted top rated Indian movies list on the reputed movies database portal IMDb. The film has not only cracked the list, but it has done that in style. Currently, ‘12th Fail’ is placed on a highly impressive rank of 84 (out of 250 Indian titles).
And in doing that, ‘12th Fail’ has surpassed some immensely popular and critically acclaimed films such as ‘KGF-1’, ‘KGF-2’, ‘RRR’, ‘PK’, ‘Baahubali 2’, and ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ to name a few.
The topmost spot on the aforementioned top 250 Indian movies IMDb list is currently held by the animated film ‘Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Ram’ (Rank 1), Kamal Haasan’s ‘Nayakan’ (Rank 2), classic 70s comedy ‘Gol Maal’ (Rank 3), R. Madhavan’s ‘Rocketry: The Nambi Effect’ (Rank 4), and ‘Anbe Sivam’ (Rank 5), amongst other films.
Coming back to ‘12th Fail’, the movie has received unanimously positive reviews from critics and audiences alike. Based on Anurag Pathak’s best-selling book, ‘12th Fail’ is a film which narrates the incredible and inspirational story of IPS officer Manoj Kumar Sharma (played by the terrific Vikrant Massey) and IRS officer Shraddha Joshi (Medha Shankar). The story is set amidst the backdrop of gruelling preparation by students who try to clear one of the world’s toughest exams: UPSC.
