Like many film festivals this year due to the unfortunate pandemic, New York Indian Film Festival is also playing out in virtual format. It is the oldest Indian film festival in North America.
NYIFF is powered by ‘Movie Saints’ this year, the festival will begin on 24th July – 2nd August, 2020.
Geetha J’s “Run Kalyani” will be the opening film while Shashi Tharoor will host a panel discussion post the screening.
Geethu Mohandas’ “Moothon” is set to close the festival. Tanuja Chandra’s “Aunty Sudha Aunty Radha” and Vibha Bakshi’s “Son Rise” are 2 of the documentaries at the centre.
NYIFF 2020 includes 12 feature films, 30 shorts, and 4 documentaries in languages such as – Assamese, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Haryanvi, Hindi, English, Ladakhi, Maithili, Malayalam, Marathi and Nepali. (Includes English subtitles).
NYIFF will pay tribute to Late Irrfan by showcasing “The Namesake” in his memory. Mira Nair, Kal Penn and Manoj Bajpayee will be joining for conversations. A special spotlight will be hosted in honor of Anubhav Sinha’s “Article 15”.
