The on-screen Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ewan McGregor, has teased that the odds of Season 2 happening are low. However, he is open to returning to ‘the galaxy far, far away’ in future Star Wars projects.
McGregor debuted as Kenobi in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace (1999), starring alongside the likes of Liam Neeson and Natalie Portman. The prequel trilogy was initially criticised for not meeting the standards set by the original trilogy. However, the prequels are now considered one of the best Star Wars projects. They have developed a strong fan base in the last few years, particularly Episode III – Revenge of the Sith (2005).
In a recent interview with LADbible, Ewan McGregor revealed that Season 2 of the Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ series might not see the daylight as Lucasfilm treated the first season as a limited series. Although, he wants to play the iconic Star Wars character in the franchise’s future projects.
“I love doing it. I hope we get a chance to do another one and I’m sure we will. I’m pretty sure, you know, I’ve got a few years yet before I’m the same age as Alec Guinness was in A New Hope. So there’s time to tell more stories in there,” said McGregor.
The Star Wars prequels have gained immense admiration from the franchise’s fanbase in recent years. Disney and Lucasfilm agreed to produce the Obi-Wan Kenobi series after acknowledging the popularity of Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen among the fans. This scenario also resulted in the development of Ahsoka, which featured Christensen as Anakin Skywalker, aka Darth Vader. Given the craze of the prequel trilogy and McGregor’s popularity among Star Wars fans, it will not be surprising if Lucasfilm gives the green light to Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 in future. Stay tuned for more updates.
