Steven Soderbergh’s globally celebrated heist flick ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ completed twenty years last year. Soderbergh’s film has often been credited to have revitalized the heist films genre across the world. The immense success of ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ was followed by two sequels namely ‘Ocean’s Twelve’ and ‘Ocean’s Thirteen’ directed by Soderbergh himself. Subsequently, a spin-off film titled ‘Ocean’s 8’ came out in 2018.
In an exciting piece of update for fans of the critically acclaimed and commercially successful film ‘Ocean’s Eleven’, some new details about the ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ prequel have been revealed. Many of you might already be aware that the ‘Barbie’ lead actor duo Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie are set to star in the ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ prequel movie.
Now, as per the latest update (via Showbiz 411), the title for the highly anticipated prequel is going to be ‘Oceans’, which is set to commence filming early next year. Moreover, Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie will be essaying the role of the parents of Danny Ocean, the titular character played by George Clooney in ‘Ocean’s Eleven’.
As per the report, the prequel movie ‘Oceans’ will revolve around how Danny’s parents try to teach the tricks of the trade to him and his sister Debbie (played by Sandra Bullock, who featured in an ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ spin-off movie ‘Ocean’s 8’). That is, how to rob super rich people by way of executing a mind boggling and intricately planned heist.
The prequel will take place during the 1960s period – 1962, Monte Carlo to be precise. Jay Roach, who has directed films like ‘Meet the Parents’ and ‘Austin Powers’ in the past, will ostensibly go behind the camera for the ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ prequel. Besides Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie, no other actor has been confirmed to star in the prequel.
Although it would be interesting to see an ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ prequel, getting it made in the first place is still debatable because of the sheer number of heist films audiences have seen in the last two decades. ‘The Italian Job’, ‘The Town’, ‘Fast Five’, ‘Now You See Me’, ‘Baby Driver’ and so on. The list is endless. But since a huge number of heist films have been so successful in the past, we guess the heist genre is yet to reach its saturation point. So, an ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ prequel might not be such a bad idea after all.
