OHO Gujarati OTT Not Heading in the Right Direction?

By Binged Bureau - Aug 16, 2021 @ 06:08 pm
OHO Gujarati OTT Not Heading in the Right Direction?

To many of you who might not know, OHO Gujarati is an Indian OTT platform that releases Gujarati content (as the name suggests). The OTT has released multiple original TV series; ‘Ok Boss’, ‘Vitthal Teedi’ and ‘Cutting’, being a few of the names of the web series which dropped in 2021 alone. With the aforementioned TV series releasing in quick succession, the OTT platform has certainly done its best at endearing itself to the Gujarati crowd. But only the Gujarati crowd it seems. As per the latest social media posts and reports, these shows do not have any other language subtitles – particularly, in Hindi, the most spoken language in the country. What’s more, their latest original series, ‘Tuition’ do not have any subtitles at all. For an OTT platform of OHO Gujarati’s calibre, releasing original content sans subtitles is a huge negative mark against its current progress.

The previously mentioned web series, except for ‘Tuition‘, is only available in English subtitles. Which likely means that OHO Gujarati only releases their content as is during the content’s premiere date for the Gujarati subscribers only. They make and release English subtitles only for their content, which only get uploaded after the series has run for a certain period of time.

OHO Gujarati is a regional OTT platform that is only a few months old, having been released back in May 2021. Its growth has been remarkable, with a brilliant user interface and relatable content. But OHO Gujarati has hamstrung themselves by sticking with its motto – “By The Gujaratis, For The Gujaratis”. Non-Gujaratis, who love TV series and movies regardless of language (which are in the millions in India alone), will not be able to watch the Gujarati content (and future content as well) as it releases, especially the ones like who have subscribed to the digital platform. Even worse, there are only English subtitles available on the platform, so the people who are not comfortable in English will not be able to check any of OHO Gujarati content out. OHO Gujarati needs to seriously rectify this issue by adding at least Hindi subtitles to their latest content if they are to continue as a serious Indian streaming platform.

On another note, buying a plan from OHO Gujarati may feel like applying for the subscription will not be worth it. You can only buy a subscription through a Razor Pay account, which requires you to have an exclusive account of your own. And the Razor Pay app will only allow money transactions if you have a business (for some reason). After doing all that and then providing content with no subtitles, or variety in language availability can end up being both triggering and distressing.
