OTT platforms and its massive popularity and usage among the youth is a known fact but to say that its limited to just them, would be a bit inaccurate. The shift in viewing pattern is much wider than what it is perceived to be.
Now the older generation too is indulging itself in watching content of all sorts across platforms. While we have several reasons to blame the coronavirus pandemic for ruining the year 2020, it is this very pandemic that is responsible for this widening of the viewing scope of streaming services across the globe.
Because of the pandemic induced lockdown people were forced to stay at home with their families and a lot of time to spare. It was then that the children in the family, whether staying at home or away in metro cities, got their parents and other elder members in the family accustomed to the world of OTT, so that they could all enjoy and overcome the trying times everyone was going through.
Younger generation is, not generally, but often impatient with the older people when trying to explain certain technological aspects and this mostly happens because they are too busy to spare the time needed for such matters. But with lockdown in place one thing that everybody got was a lot of free time and that was surely a blessing in disguise.
So what seemed like a distant possibility became a nearby reality for OTT platforms. The use of these streaming services has become a common household thing now, at some places even replacing the age old TV viewing habit. After all somewhere we all are fed up of the same old saas-bahu drama that goes on in those daily soaps on TV.
Though what we say here is still in nascent stages, we cannot deny that it is happening. What’s important here is that OTTs now have a whole new generation to cater to and that means they would need to make their content slate a lot more diverse.
