Netflix is looking to expand the Extraction franchise with its newly greenlit spinoff series, which is set in the same world as Chris Hemsworth’s ‘Extraction’ movies. Omar Sy will take the lead role in the series.
The ‘Lupin’ fame, Omar Sy, will lead the spinoff project with eight action-packed and thrilling episodes.
This new action thriller, set in the same universe, revolves around a mercenary (played by Sy) caught between rival groups and deadly assassins. He undertakes a perilous mission to rescue hostages in Libya, and the series explores the emotional turmoil of its complex and flawed characters as they grapple with trauma, betrayal, and life-or-death situations.
The ‘Extraction’ movies are based on the graphic novel, Ciudad, written by Ande Parks, Joe Russo and Anthony Russo. Moreover, the Russo Brothers have co-produced the films with Hemsworth. Sam Hargrave helmed these high-octane projects.
Hargrave will serve as the spinoff’s executive producer, with Glen Mazzara serving as the show’s showrunner and lead writer. Additional executive producers are Joe Russo, Anthony Russo, Scott Nemes, Chris Castaldi, and Angela Russo-Otstot for AGBO.
The new Extraction spinoff series is a product of a long-standing relationship between Netflix and the Russo Brothers, which also resulted in the release of Extraction (2020), Extraction 2 (2023), and The Gray Man, which starred Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, and Ana de Armas.
The Electric State is this collaboration’s next feature project, which stars Chris Pratt and Millie Bobby Brown, scheduled to premiere on March 14. Stay tuned for more updates.
