Akshay Kumar, a stalwart of the Bollywood film industry, has given a concerning statement. His recent release, “OMG 2,” a film aimed at educating the masses, took an unexpected turn in its journey to becoming an OTT sensation. Despite the film’s success at the box office, it missed the opportunity to gain a massive following on streaming platforms, a setback attributed to a decision by Akshay Kumar himself.
In a candid statement, Akshay Kumar expressed his disappointment at the CBFC’s decision to give “OMG 2” an ‘Adult’ rating after nearly 27 cuts. The film, which centered around the topic of sex education, was originally intended for a wider audience, especially children. The actor raised a pertinent question – in a country with a population of 1.5 billion, isn’t there a pressing need for sex education?
Despite the ‘A’ certificate and the numerous cuts, “OMG 2” managed to rake in an impressive Rs 145 crore at the box office, even when pitted against a formidable opponent like “Gadar 2.” However, the film’s journey didn’t end there. The prospect of an “uncut” version finding its way to streaming platforms was on the horizon, but Akshay Kumar opted against it, choosing to respect the CBFC’s decision.
The film did eventually make its way to Netflix, but the views it garnered were less than expected, leaving many wondering about the missed opportunity for OTT success. With Akshay Kumar’s star power and a subject matter that could have educated and entertained, “OMG 2” had the potential to become a streaming sensation.
Even those people who watched the movie on the big screens would wave catched the movie on Netflix due to those extra 27 scenes. But, alas!
