Anybody remembers 2012 classic satirical comedy OMG – Oh My God? I bet you surely remember it for the mind-blowing performance of Paresh Rawal, equally supported by Akshay Kumar.
But there is news related to the same which can make you happy as well as a little sad. We just learnt that pre-production work has already begun for the second installment of OMG – Oh My God and that means we are again in for a treat from the franchise created by Umesh Shukla, the director of the first film. But what will make you a bit sad that though, Akshay Kumar will back for this one, but the lead actor, or the backbone of the first installment, comedy king Paresh Rawal will not be returning for the second part of OMG. Instead, the makers have opted for Pankaj Tripathi for the new film.
Now, granted Pankaj Tripathi is a fine actor with superb comic timings but the fans will never be able to forget Paresh Rawal as Kanji Lalji Mehta who sued God. It was a mile-stone performance from Rawal which also showcased his versatility. It is still not clear why Paresh Rawal is returning for OMG 2 but it’s almost confirmed that Tripathi is joining the cast and it will mark his second collaboration with Akshay Kumar after ‘Bachchan Pandey’ which is set for a 2022 release. As mentioned earlier, director Umesh Shukla who directed the original film, will also not be returning to direct the second installment of OMG. The producers are yet to reveal the name of the new director. The film will be reportedly produced by Ashwin Varde of Kabir Singh fame along with Akshay Kumar himself.
No other details revealed yet for OMG 2 but it has been indicated that the filming will begin by September 2021 once the lockdown restrictions in the country eases a bit. Now, time will only tell that Pankaj Tripathi, the new Kanji Lalji Mehta equivalent can make the fans go gaga over his performance or not as those fans are already bowled over by the sublime performance of Paresh Rawal in OMG – Oh My God!
