OTT giant Netflix is all set to introduce a more affordable, ad-supported plan called ‘Basic with Ads’ from 3rd November this year in twelve countries. The plan would cost $6.99 for prospective subscribers but it is not being rolled out in India, yet.
In India, Netflix had significantly slashed their plan prices last year in December to attract more subscribers in the massively important yet price sensitive market. However, there seems to be an urgent need for one potential plan which Netflix India currently does not offer to the Indian OTT viewers.
For quite some time, one apparently important and growing segment of OTT enthusiasts in India have expressed their want for an affordable Netflix plan which would enable the viewers to watch content on the streaming platform in the premium Ultra HD/4K + HDR (best video quality) format.
Currently, Netflix is offering four plans namely Mobile (480p, Rs.149/-), Basic (480p, Rs.199/-), Standard (1080p, Rs.499/-), and Premium (4K, Rs.649/-).
Netflix’s costliest ‘Premium’ plan offers its users Ultra HD/4K + HDR content at the cost of Rs.649/- per month in which the content can be watched on four different devices at the same time (phone/tablet/computer/TV).
But there remains one important and a large audience segment who are interested in watching (best video quality) Ultra HD/4K + HDR content, albeit only on a single screen (either one of phone/tablet/computer/TV). Most of these OTT buffs are singles or the only ones who consume OTT content in their families.
So, it would be great if Netflix could introduce a brand-new plan for this special OTT audience segment who want the best of both worlds – an affordable single screen plan combined with the premium Ultra HD/4K + HDR content.
This potential plan could really help Netflix increase its subscriber base in India and to fill up the gap for the above-mentioned OTT audience segment. This potential Netflix India plan could be priced somewhere in the range of Rs.350/- to Rs.400/- per month. But that’s for the top brass to decide. Netflix, are you listening?
