Netflix has dropped the trailer for its upcoming Polish original film ‘Operation Hyacinth’ and this one uncovers some of the ugly dark secrets of the communist police of Poland around the year 1985. Directed by Piotr Domalewski (‘I Never Cry’), ‘Operation Hyacinth’ will release on Netflix on 13th October, 2021.
The trailer begins with a daunting question asked in a police investigation room from several people. And that question is whether they associate themselves with homosexual people. Now that sets an interesting premise for the film that centres around one of Poland’s secret mass operation of the same name run by country’s communist police in the years 1985-87.
The above aside, a young police officer Robert gets assigned to a murder case where the killer is behind gay people. During the investigation he meets Arek who becomes his informant in the case. But as secrets are about to unravel, the case gets closed by higher authorities who say they found a confession.
But the case and his unique relationship with Arek changes everything. It’s not just his work that gets affected but also his personal life. The case has somehow changed his whole life and now Robwrt believes he has deceived everyone. Feeling lost and knowing that there’s something more that’s not out in open, Robert takes upon himself to continue his investigation and find the real killer.
A thriller story set in poland in the 1980s, ‘Operation Hyacinth’ on Netflix follows Robert, a young policeman of principals, who finds a serial killer who is after the gay men. In the course of the investigation, he meets Arek. Robert decides to use him as an informant, not realising how much this relationship will affect not only his work but also his personal life. Moreover, he is not satisfied with the result of the investigation closed by his seniors, he sets out on his own to discover the truth.
