The Oscars are known for their tagline of being inclusive, but there has always been a catch. This inclusivity was usually limited to racial diversity, and often seemed like a mere gimmick. However, there are new changes this time.
The Academy is making some significant changes, awarding those who truly deserve it.
This might be a “Fall Guy” effect, bringing positive changes, or it could be a remarkable coincidence.
Academy CEO Bill Kramer recently stated, “We’re talking to members of the stunt community who are Academy members about the possibility of that. We added a new award that will launch in two years for Casting Directors,” he notes, “so we’re always open to those discussions.”
According to Academy President Janet Yang, the Academy is evolving like a living organism. They consider strong member support and have established mechanisms for advancing new categories, as seen with the creation of new branches like Casting. While it’s still early, there are indications that a Stunt category may be in the works, reflecting the Academy’s adaptation to the changing industry.
If this works out, it will definitely be a positive change for the entire entertainment industry. In action films, while actors are properly rewarded, stunt performers often go unnoticed. As Oscars will also be awarded to Casting Directors for their phenomenal work, stunt people are likely next in line.
