The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has had several backlashes against not being inclusive or being “Oscars So White” for several years now. The Academy met its ‘2020goal’ of doubling the number of women and people of colour in its membership and has hereby declared 819 new members adding to their board. 36% come from the underrepresented ethnic/racial communities and 45% women have been invited along with actors which form a large part of 49% from overseas.

Documentary director ‘Nishtha Jain’ (Gulabi Gang, Lakshmi and Me) ‘Amit Madheshiya’ and ‘Shirley Abraham’ (The Hour of Lynching, The Cinema Travellers)
Costume designer ‘Neeta Lulla’ (Devdas, Jodhaa Akbar)
Writer ‘Sabrina Dhawan’ (Kaminey, Monsoon Wedding)
Casting directors ‘Nandini Shrikent’ (Life of Pi) ‘Tess Joseph’ (Lion, The Namesake)
Visual effects artist ‘Vishal Anand’ (War, Bharat) ‘Sandeep Kamal’ (Panipat, Jal)
And ‘V Senthil Kumar’ (co founder of digital streaming company Qube cinema technologies)
