After getting bored of the same old kind of daily soaps on TV and the predictable drama in cinemas, OTT platforms brought in the ‘new’ thing that the audience had been longing for. But to provide a variety of content that these platforms do, they need filmmakers and actors to make it happen.
Now, this becomes a challenge for both the creators/story-tellers and the actors. They have nothing to refer to, other than their own imaginations, when looking to create something from scratch or when working on concepts that haven’t been seen much before.
And that’s the reason that this demand of newness or freshness or smartness in content, in turn needs unconventional and intelligent skills and methods. Eventually, making even the masters of the respective fields to go through a beautiful process of unlearning and learning something new, when working in the digital space.
Acting on OTTs needs the actors to come out of their comfort zone, surrender oneself to the script and succumb to the character’s demand because here, only one’s impeccable acting is what will make their way into the audience’s hearts and minds, as the awe of a big screen and the cinematic shots won’t be there to help.
Even long established names in the entertainment industry have to prove themselves anew, everytime they try something different on OTTs. And we all know how change is the only constant on these platforms. So, if one wants to make a name and grab more and more work in the digital world, he/she got to keep upgrading their skills all the time.
For OTT platforms variability is the key to viability, given the tough competition that’s out there, and that is why they promote innovative ideas and styles that might not always work as thought but rarely goes unappreciated. Same goes to the actors, directors and everyone involved in the process of making a film/show to remember, and that is to never stop the incredible process of learning as it makes it more so exciting each time.
