The wonders of OTT are infinite. As we see time passing, the power of the OTT industry over the traditional cinema is just increasing. The dynamics are such that every film strives to get the validation of not only theatrical audiences but also OTT audiences.
However, a few producers are still very apprehensive about the scope of OTT.
Vijay Kiragandur, the mastermind behind Hombale Films, is clear about one thing: his heart belongs to the big screen. Known for delivering blockbusters like K.G.F. Chapter 1 & 2 and Kantara, Kiragandur has an undeniable love for the good old and unparalleled charm of theatres. “The excitement lies in hearing the audience scream and shout in cinemas,” he says.
Yet, he is not blind to the changing tides of entertainment. Kiragandur is very much aware of the powers of OTT and he is ready to explore it just that he doesn’t want to explode his resources and energy in the theatrical business.
“We want to start slowly,” Kiragandur explains. The plan? Begin by acquiring Kannada movies, then expand gradually. While the theatre business offers massive rewards and equally big risks, OTT provides safer, fixed profits.
However, Kiragandur says, “It may not give us the kind of returns theatres do.”
But let’s tell you the real deal which is also the most important aspect of this article.
Hombale Films is in talks with Netflix for an upcoming web series. Yes, Mr Vijay Kiragandur has himself confirmed it and we can most definitely expect a Kannada series on Netflix India.
Details are under wraps, but it’s clear that while theatres remain the priority, Hombale is adapting to modern times. After all, even for a filmmaker devoted to the big screen, the world of streaming cannot be ignored.
