Om Raut’s big-ticket film ‘Adipurush’ starring Prabhas (as Adipurush / Lord Ram), Saif Ali Khan (as Lankesh / Ravana), Kriti Sanon (as Janaki / Goddess Sita), Sunny Singh as Lakshmana, and Devdatta Nage as God Hanuman / Bajrang, was finally released in theatres last Friday. Despite an impressive start at the box-office during the opening weekend, ‘Adipurush’ was on the receiving end of mixed to negative feedback from critics and audiences. And now, the film’s box-office is showing signs of a significant downward trend.
The non-acceptance of a massively mounted Prabhas-led movie like ‘Adipurush’ has got the Indian audience rather disappointed. And perhaps now is the perfect time for Indian OTT platforms like Netflix, Disney+ Hotstar, and Amazon Prime Video (which has acquired the digital rights for ‘Adipurush’ also) etc. to get hold of a highly rated film based on Ramayana.

And that’s where a big chance for Indian OTT platforms lies. After the release of ‘Adipurush’, Indian viewers and fans of the epic Ramayana are eager to watch something good related to the legendary subject matter. And most of them have already seen Ramanand Sagar’s 1980s cult television series ‘Ramanaya’.
This post-Adipurush release void can be filled by ‘Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama’, which is an anime film that came out back in the year 1992. You won’t believe the fact that the movie is currently the highest ranked Indian movie of all time on IMDb’s top 250 Indian films list. It has received an incredible IMDb user rating of 9.2/10.
Based on the Hindu epic Ramayana, the movie is about how the king of Ayodhya Dashratha unwillingly sends Prince Ram (voiced by Arun Govil) on an exile to a forest for fourteen years. Accompanied by his wife Sita and brother Lakshmana, they start their new lives, but later Sita is kidnapped by Lanka’s powerful demon king Ravana (Amrish Puri). Now, Ram must take the help of Hanuman (Dara Singh) and the Vanara sena (monkey army) to defeat Ravana in his own land and get back his wife.
There are many fans who have watched Om Raut’s ‘Adipurush’ and got disappointed and there are others who still haven’t seen the film and do not plan to because of insipid reviews. So, getting ‘Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama’ on an OTT platform can pull OTT audiences in big numbers, especially during this time.
